March Full Moon Yoga: The Goose Moon / Niskipîsim

As winter loosens its grip, niskipîsim, the “Goose Moon,” rises over a land on the brink of change. In Cree tradition, this moon signals the return of the geese and the quiet stirring of spring beneath the snow. Though the air still carries winter’s chill, life begins to move again, reminding us that awakening does not happen all at once. This moon carries the medicine of stillness, listening, and preparation, asking us to rest deeply now so we may rise with strength when the time is right.

This full moon illuminates themes of gentle awakening and readiness. Astrologically, March’s lunation often brings awareness to transition the space between holding on and moving forward. It invites us to notice where patience is required, where softness creates strength, and how trust in timing allows growth to unfold naturally, without force.

Why practice under the Full Moon?
The full moon amplifies emotion and intention, offering a sacred pause for reflection and renewal. Practicing yoga beneath its light helps us slow down and listen to the body, to the Earth, and to the subtle cues guiding us toward what’s next. Under the Goose Moon, this practice becomes an act of preparation: releasing winter-held tension, opening the chest and shoulders, and cultivating quiet readiness. In this stillness, we remember that rest is not stagnation, but the gathering of energy before flight.
